Muna Zuberi

Muna Zuberi began training as a stained glass artist 3 years ago following many years working with more conventional materials such as pencil and collage. In April 2011 she was awarded the Ashton Hill Award by the Worshipful Company of Glaziers & Painters of Glass and took up her placement at Barley Studio in York. She has completed several courses at the Swansea School of Architectural Glass with Jonathan Cooke, in glass painting, stains and enamels and the glass engraving course at Morley College.

Muna’s past work involved very detailed figurative pencil drawings. The skills she gained over many years have transferred very successfully to glass painting and she continues to explore this demanding craft.Keen to learn different styles of glass painting, she has made a series of copies of historic painted glass. She believes that making these faithful replicas helps to unravel the techniques of how they were painted and gives an insight into the practices and methods used.Alongside this (and feeding into it) she has worked to develop a style of glass painting of her own.

Muna’s approach to design is always informed by the traditional approach to stained glass making. She considers this as a solid foundation from which new and contemporary design can grow.
She works from her studio in Crystal Palace in South East London and undertakes commissions for stained glass projects as well as creating art glass pieces and glass paintings. Her current work includes a commission for an outdoor glass installation for the National Trust which is to be displayed at Mottisfont Abbey near Southampton.
